01What it does

What Norcal Golden Retriever Rescue Inc does

Mission

Norcal Golden Retriever Rescue is an all-volunteer organization that has rescued and found permanent, loving homes for Golden Retrievers and Golden Retriever mixes since its inception in 1994. Through the dedicated work of its foster families and other volunteers, the Rescue helps displaced, abandoned, and homeless Golden Retrievers and Golden Retriever mixes throughout Northern California and western Nevada regardless of their age or health. Norcal Golden Retriever Rescue is able to save dogs that would otherwise likely be euthanized by combining its longstanding, carefully developed relationships with veterinarians and knowledgeable dog behaviorists with the generous financial resources provided by its donors.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. During 2024, Norcal Golden Retriever Rescue rescued, rehabilitated, and placed in loving homes Golden Retrievers, Golden Retriever mixes, and bonded pairs that include at least one Golden Retriever. The organization brought in 169 new dogs and provided continuing veterinarian and professional behavioral care to a total of 198 dogs. Norcal Golden Retriever Rescue also participated in various in-person outreach programs throughout Northern California to educate the public regarding its mission and work, what it means to foster or adopt a rescue dog, and the special needs and benefits of caring for a Golden Retriever or a Golden Retriever mix. It also informed the public about puppy scams, how to spot puppy mills, and the risks of obtaining a puppy from a mill, in addition to distributing dog-related information, tools, and resources through its newsletters, website, and social media accounts.

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 4 funders, grant income fell $27k → $27k.

6 of 11 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 42% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of Norcal Golden Retriever Rescue Inc’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

Norcal Golden Retriever Rescue Inc leans on a few funders — its largest provides 54% of grant income and the top three 79%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

42% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Norcal Golden Retriever Rescue Inc.
