01What it does

What Meals on Wheels Cleveland West does

Mission

Meals on Wheels Cleveland West serves residents in cleveland's far west suburbs. Our mission is to furnish nutritious meals, combat social isolation and address safety concerns for our neighbors, while providing peace of mind for families of the convalescing, disabled and elderly, who are unable to cook for themselves. By caring for our neighbors, we are creating a stronger and more vibrant community, where more of our neighbors can remain in their home and out of expensive nursing home or hospital care. We are an irs certified 501(c)(3) community service non-profit organization, that is not government subsidized. We are funded through reasonable meal service fees, and with 100% community support.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. The organization provides two mid-day meals (one hot and one cold) to our community's homebound at an affordable rate. We also provide social contact and well checks to the homebound often times being their only contact. We help to combat isolation and ensure that the homebound in our community have the nutrition and social contact they need to thrive.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 6 funders, grant income rose $15k → $35k.

4 of 12 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 32% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of MEALS ON WHEELS CLEVELAND WEST’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

MEALS ON WHEELS CLEVELAND WEST has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 23% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

53% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund MEALS ON WHEELS CLEVELAND WEST.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 93% · 2020 98% · 2021 98% · 2022 43% · 2023 28% — diversifying over time.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

50% of MEALS ON WHEELS CLEVELAND WEST's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 33% give in more than one year at all.

first grant+1y+2y+3y

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Ohio out of state home

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $31k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
