Programs

  1. Home meal deliveries:the major mission of pascack valley meals on wheels (dba as meals on wheels north jersey) is to provide two meals a day (a hot meal and a cold meal) 5 days a week to eligible homebound individuals who are unable to cook or shop for themselves due to age or disability. In 2022, 54,000 meals were delivered to 413 recipients. The meals are prepared by independent caterers in their full service kitchens which are inspected regularly by local and state health inspectors. Meals were delivered by unpaid volunteers. The cost of food alone was $264,500 in 2022. Recipients were asked to make a monthly contribution to offset the cost of food and overhead based on their ability to pay. Subsidies and discounts are given upon request. No recipient is denied a meal because of inability to pay, subject to the availability of funding and subject to a waiting list to join the program if funding is not available. Grants from bergen county social services help offset the cost of food and subsidies.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 10 funders, grant income rose $31k → $127k.

4 of 22 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 7% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

27% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund PASCACK VALLEY MEALS ON WHEELS INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $52k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
