01What it does

What Living Stones does

Mission

Living Stones exists to invite neighbors to the table, where we strive to holistically uplift them through meals, programs, and services that meet their needs and exemplify the love of christ.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Our meal ministry - it all begins with a meal. Meals are the very heart and soul of our ministry. Living Stones is dedicated to tackling food insecurity by rescuing food from health certified institutions that would otherwise throw it out, and providing nourishing meals to all who join us. We create a welcoming environment where both strangers and friends can come together around a table. Living Stones has rescued more than 14,000 pounds of food each year. All of the food we rescue and prepare is eaten on site or taken away in to-go containers, and no food is wasted.

  2. My monday thing - a popular program all about providing neighbors with an opportunity for more than the food and fellowship they enjoy at our sunday meals. On regularly scheduled mondays, our neighbors are invited to join us for a hot breakfast and lunch buffet. They can also receive free haircuts and styling. Additionally, they have access to our free clothing boutique and can participate in craft activities.

  3. Health and home - to help our neighbors maintain good health and live safely, our part-time community health worker, who is present at all our meals and programs, is responsible for connecting people with resources beyond what we can offer, including housing, safety, and financial assistance. The community health worker also serves as our community outreach coordinator, and is responsible for understanding the needs and prayers of our neighbors and following up with them when needed.

  4. Living Stones is a christian-based nonprofit committed to nurturing the holistic well-being of the individuals we serve. By providing comprehensive support that begins during meals with our neighbors, we strive to uplift and empower each one by addressing their physical, spiritual, and social needs. Many of those we serve are elderly and face food insecurity and lack social support and capital. We are dedicated to building relationships with and among our neighbors to combat loneliness.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base narrowed from 4 funders to 3 funders, grant income rose $30k → $38k.

3 of 9 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 35% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of LIVING STONES’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

LIVING STONES leans on a few funders — its largest provides 48% of grant income and the top three 84%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

42% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund LIVING STONES.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

50% of LIVING STONES's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 56% give in more than one year at all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $79k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
