What Lets Plant Trees does
Mission
Let's plant trees is a minnesota nonprofit dedicated to restoring healthy, resilient forests. We provide free native tree seedlings to property owners, along with the knowledge and resources they need to plant them successfully. Our work also includes educational presentations for schools, libraries, and community groups, as well as partnerships with communities, schools, and businesses to organize volunteer tree planting projects that make a lasting environmental impact. The need for reforestation is urgent. With the right information and support, seedling survival rates can improve dramatically. That is why we focus on planting native species suited to minnesota's changing climate and share practical, timely guidance on when and where to plant.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.
Program
Let's plant trees promotes reforestation by giving away free native minnesota tree seedlings along with clear guidance on how, when, and where to plant them. We organize volunteer tree planting projects with businesses and organizations across the state and provide educational presentations on the importance of reforestation at schools, libraries, and community events. A total of 20,000 seedlings were distributed in 2025. Plans for distrubiting 50,000 in 2026 and 100,000 in 2027 is underway.

Who funds it, year by year
Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.
From the IRS filings of LETS PLANT TREES’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
LETS PLANT TREES leans on a few funders — its largest provides 75% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
75% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund LETS PLANT TREES.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
LETS PLANT TREES draws 75% of its grant income from funders outside Minnesota, across 2 states in all.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
