Programs

  1. For thirty-nine years, the ltaa scholarship program has remained the hallmark philanthropic initiative for the ltaa with a cumulative total of more than 3.4 million dollars administered over the lifespan of the program. In fy25, thirty-nine graduating seniors received scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000, setting them on a path for success for at least their freshman year, and in some cases, for four years. 36% of the students at lane tech are from low or moderately low-income families. Many are from immigrant families, single parent homes, first generation college-bound, and all have some level of financial need, still compounded by covid-related economic stressors. Ltaa scholarships provide "last mile" financing so that the high-potential students of lane can attend their best-fit institutions. The ltaa solicits scholarship donors, designs and administers the programs, distributes funds, and documents the results.

  2. The ltaa faculty innovation grant program was established in 2010 to offset system-wide budget deficiencies and promote a best-in-class curriculum. These grants help elevate the rigor and caliber of learning at lane and have supported a variety of activities from special equipment to immersive experiences. These grants touch virtually every one of the more than 4,500 students at lane and enable the faculty and staff to offer more programs and extracurricular activities than any other cps high school. The grant program is a critical component of a holistic approach in support of the students of lane tech through educational enhancements, college-readiness, and access to higher education.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 7 funders, grant income rose $18k → $39k.

4 of 11 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 57% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of LANE TECH ALUMNI ASSOCIATION INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

LANE TECH ALUMNI ASSOCIATION INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 33% of grant income and the top three 78%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

57% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund LANE TECH ALUMNI ASSOCIATION INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

71% of LANE TECH ALUMNI ASSOCIATION INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 64% give in more than one year at all.

Where its funders are

57% of LANE TECH ALUMNI ASSOCIATION INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $163k that is directly attributable, 59% of it comes from Illinois funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $212k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
