01What it does

What Imago Global Grassroots does

Mission

Imago Global Grassroots is committed to working with organizations to transform poverty into material well-being and dignity. We work around the world with existing organizations to enhance their strengths, build their capacity, and scale their impact in a way that respects their unique context, attributes and evolution.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. Our international programs supported initiatives across latin america, africa, and india to advance maternal and infant health, education, women's economic empowerment, and rural entrepreneurship. We supported five finalist organizations in colombia, kenya, guatemala, and uganda to strengthen their proposals for a $9 million maternal and infant health award by conducting diagnostics, leading workshops, and providing hands-on feedback throughout proposal development. In chile, we co-created and implemented a tool with sumar saberes and the ministry of education to assess the scalability of education initiatives. This tool has already evaluated 30 programs and is influencing how the sector approaches scale. In peru, we collaborated with the ministries of social inclusion and agriculture to strengthen rural entrepreneurship programs by building local government capacity, using adaptive evaluation to track progress, and supporting a more coherent support system for entrepreneurs. In india, we completed two large-scale evaluations assessing the impact of sewa bharat's women enterprise support system and the convergence of nrlm and mgnrega on women's economic empowerment and agency. 03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2019 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 5 funders, grant income rose $33k → $853k.

2 of 8 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 13% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of IMAGO GLOBAL GRASSROOTS’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

IMAGO GLOBAL GRASSROOTS leans on a few funders — its largest provides 70% of grant income and the top three 95%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

26% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund IMAGO GLOBAL GRASSROOTS.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2019 56% · 2020 66% · 2021 75% · 2022 76% · 2023 61% — growing more concentrated.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

60% of IMAGO GLOBAL GRASSROOTS's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 63% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $747k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
