01What it does

What Hopewill Foundation Inc does

Mission

To raise funds for nephcure kidney international non-profit organization to fund research related to the cause of the debilitating kidney disease focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (fsgs).

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. The hopewill foundation (f/k/a old florida federation) hosts the annual "tampa pig jig", an event that raises funds for nephcure, whose mission is to empower people with rare, protein-spilling kidney disease to take charge of their health, while leading the revolution in research, new treatments, and care.the pig jig was created by a group of lifelong friends in response to learning that one of their own was diagnosed with the rare kidney disease focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (fsgs). There is no known cure for this disease and since its inception, the tampa pig jig and the hopewill foundation have donated more than $5,000,000 to nephcure to fund the research necessary in finding a cure. The tampa pig jig also provides a way for patients to connect through its "patient socials". Rare kidney disease can feel isolating and the patient social at the tampa pig jig brings patients together from around the nation, helping them to feel less alone in their fight.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 7 funders, grant income rose $26k → $86k.

6 of 18 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 29% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of HOPEWILL FOUNDATION INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

HOPEWILL FOUNDATION INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 19% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

57% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund HOPEWILL FOUNDATION INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

25% of HOPEWILL FOUNDATION INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 44% give in more than one year at all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $122k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
