What Hawaii Environmental Restoration does
Mission
Restoration and protection of the Keauohana Native State Forest Reserve.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.
Program
*Hawaii Environmental Restoration*'s (HER) primary project focuses on the restoration and preservation of Keau'ohana State Forest Reserve, the largest and most intact lowland rainforest remaining below 1,000 feet in the State of Hawai'i. Since June of 2014, Keau'ohana has undergone an intensive restoration process that has focused on the control of invasive plant species, and the planting of native species on what is now ~20 acres of the most biodiverse portion of the reserve. This FY 2024-25 marked 11 years of HER's committed work in the Keau'ohana Forest Reserve, launching its ninth systematic restoration pass in August 2024 and completing the cycle by July of 2025. In total, 151 individuals contributed 635 hours of service toward HER environmental and educational efforts. A total of 855 native seedlings were planted during FY 2024-25-contributing to a long-term vision of returning shaded native forest canopy to degraded areas. It was a steady and meaningful year for HER, demonstrating consistent…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2023, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2023, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $75k to $99k (+33%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
100% of HAWAII ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION’s revenue is contributions — more reliant on donations than three-quarters of its peers (92% for the typical peer).
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 1 of the last 3 reported years ran a deficit.
