What Hatua Networkinc does

Mission

Worldwide one in three youth do not have the opportunity to continue their education past primary school. As a result many end up trapped in a cycle of poverty that deprives them of life's most basic needs. In kenya, just 57% of youth today complete high school, largely as a result of the high costs of school fees and meager family income. Around the world, even low income youth who do complete high school often lack access to career advice and professional networks that can help them take their first step into a professional career. This systemic lack of education and lack of access to career opportunities contributes to the increasing global and regional inequality the world is experiencing today. Hatua network, inc. Works to address these challenges in kenya and make it possible for youth born into poverty to complete their high school and university education, join the workforce and break the cycle of poverty. Hatua aims to achieve its mission by directly implementing programs and

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2019 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 7 funders, grant income rose $15k → $64k.

7 of 13 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 49% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of HATUA NETWORKINC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

HATUA NETWORKINC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 33% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

62% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund HATUA NETWORKINC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

50% of HATUA NETWORKINC's funders are still giving 2 years after their first grant; 62% give in more than one year at all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $308k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
