01What it does

What Friends of Amani US Inc does

Mission

Support organizations which promote the health, education and safety of homeless children in tanzania, east africa and have among their goals: rescuing homeless children; providing and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment where homeless children can heal, grow and learn; reuniting homeless children with their relatives, whenever possible; supporting reunited families; and equipping older homeless children with the skills they need to live independently and become self-sufficient.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. Funds have been granted to amani centre for street children (acsc) to support their ongoing operations and capital projects. Acsc successfully rescues homeless children in tanzania and provides them with nurturing care, education, nutritious food, and essential medical care. They provide a compassionate staff of teachers, social workers and caregivers dedicated to the children's well-being. They restore hope in the lives of these most vulnerable members of the community, helping them to one day become self- sustaining, independent young adults and contributing members of society. Acsc has very positive indicators that it plans for its own viable and sustainable future as evidenced by their impressive sound fiscal management. Continued at schedule o. All funds currently held by Friends of Amani US Inc. Have been approved as grants to amani centre for street children as long as this committed organization continues to meet board-approved funding criteria and the expectations and intent of our donors, which our board ensures with ongoing oversight and follow-up.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 13 funders, grant income rose $22k → $221k.

11 of 22 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 43% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of FRIENDS OF AMANI US INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

FRIENDS OF AMANI US INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 25% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

49% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund FRIENDS OF AMANI US INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $703k arriving through sponsors registered in 9 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
