What Free Press Indiana does
Mission
Strengthen our communities and preserve democracy in indiana. Fill information gaps with original community-based non-partisan local reporting and work collaboratively with the indiana news ecosystem to distribute content until every hoosier has the information they need.

Program
Free Press Indiana, formerly known as the indiana local news initiative, launched its first newsroom, mirror indy, in december 2023. Mirror indy aims to tell the real, full and multi-faceted story of indianapolis. The content is focused in four main types: community, service, arts and culture, and accountability. The content is free for everyone to read online through several distribution channels, and is made available for partners to publish on their own channels. Free Press Indiana expanded into statewide reporting with its first role to cover the wellbeing of women and girls in september 2025.
