What Fotokids Inc does
Mission
Fotokids provides young people from low-income communities in Guatemala with education in photography, design, and digital media, together with scholarships and the support services needed to stay in school and enter the workforce.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
Fotokids funds and oversees media arts education and vocational training for young people from low-income communities in Guatemala City, carried out by Guatemalan registered nonprofit Fundacin de Nios Artistas de Guatemala. The program combines photography, graphic design, and digital media with practical career preparation. All five staff are Fotokids graduates who have worked professionally in media; each serves in both an instructional and an administrative role and mentors students facing poverty and community violence. During FY2025, 37 students participated in 86 classes and workshops. Students built professional portfolios through five assignments for outside clients in editorial and event photography, commercial catalog work, and web and digital design, and nine teenage students completed internships or supervised work placements. A new partnership with Ingeniera y Representaciones, S.A. (INRESA) provided nine professional workshops for 14 advanced students and three staff members at INRESAs studio in Zone 4, with studio access and advanced equipment donated in kind. To remove barriers to attendance, students received lunch and round-trip transportation twice weekly, and…

During FY2025, 50 students participated. They completed six workshops led by three Guatemalan and five international photography and design professionals, and delivered three projects for local clients. Student work was exhibited internationally during the year. Two students were selected for the Head On Photo Festival in Sydney, Australia, where one was named a finalist; the work was also shown digitally and in additional Australian cities. Fifty prints were featured in the Bronx Documentary Centers Latin American Foto Festival in New York City. Twenty-three prints were included in What Makes Me Click!, a childrens photography exhibition co-curated by the Chennai Photo Biennale Foundation and the Childrens Photography Archive (UK) and shown at the Government Museum in Chennai, India. To sustain participation amid economic hardship, the families of participating students received food baskets each month throughout the year, approximately 600 distributions…
$173,495 spentof which $28,200 as grants43% of program spendingFotokids funds full scholarships for formal education, from primary school through university, for students enrolled. A full scholarship covers required tuition and related school costs, removing the financial barrier that most often ends a students education. During FY2025, Fotokids added 37 students who had participated in the program for more than one year, bringing total recipients to 87. That figure represents the full unduplicated enrollment: every student Fotokids served during the year also received a scholarship. Of the 87 recipients, 42 attended primary school, 40 attended secondary school, and 5 attended university. All 82 primary and secondary recipients advanced to the next grade level. No recipients reached secondary graduation during FY2025 given current cohort composition; the five university recipients were already enrolled. The FY2025 expansion was supported in part by a $50,000 grant from The Palmer Foundation.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $49k to $118k (+142%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
99% of Fotokids Inc’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (100% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 6 funders, grant income rose $72k → $103k.
8 of 14 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 90% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of Fotokids Inc’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
Fotokids Inc leans on a few funders — its largest provides 70% of grant income and the top three 82%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
90% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Fotokids Inc.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 67% · 2018 77% · 2019 100% · 2020 92% · 2021 89% · 2022 70% · 2023 45% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
29% of Fotokids Inc's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 64% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
90% of Fotokids Inc's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $97k that is directly attributable, 92% of it comes from funders outside California, across 6 states.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $912k arriving through sponsors registered in 8 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

These figures are read directly from IRS Form 990 / 990-PF e-file XML: this organization’s own return for FY2025 (financials across 2017–2025), and the filings of 14 funders that report grants to it. “On record” means captured in the filings we have parsed — a funder that does not e-file, or whose grant detail is not itemized, will not appear.
