Mission

The purpose of the organization is the acquisition, maintenance, ownership, and display of wartime planes and equipment, including but not limited to world war ii aircraft such as a p-47 for educational and museum purposes.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. The evansville p-47 foundation purchased a p-47 thunderbolt fighter airplane from world war ii named tarheel hal, one of the most famous remaining p-47s. Shortly after being flown back to indiana, the plane was renamed "hoosier spirit ii". Following the passing of house bill 1197 on april 26, 2021, the hoosier spirit ii became indiana's state aircraft. It is displayed inside the evansville wartime museum located at 7503 petersburg road, just a mile from where it was manufactured by republic aviation in 1944.

4 of 13 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 5% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $51k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
