What Environmental Nature Center does

Mission

To provide quality education through hands-on experience with nature.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. During the 2024-25 program year, 30,810 people participated in Environmental Nature Center (enc) programs. Enc staff naturalists delivered over 60,000 hours of environmental education, providing hands-on learning experiences that deepen understanding of biodiversity, habitat conservation, and the connection between healthy ecosystems and human well-being. The enc nature preschool operated at full capacity, serving 72 children daily. Approximately $11,000 was allocated to scholarships for families experiencing financial hardship, ensuring access to high-quality, nature-based early childhood education. The preschool liaison program continued to support educators by modeling outdoor, nature-based teaching strategies. On-site field trips reached a new high, supported by expanded programming at the enc tucker wildlife sanctuary. A total of 304 field trips served 17,898 students across both campuses. More than $13,000 in scholarships supported access for 4,735 students from 75 title I schools, ensuring that cost was not a barrier to participation. The traveling naturalist program delivered 199 programs to 7,635 students. The program has adapted by expanding into after-school settings…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 6 funders to 13 funders, grant income fell $416k → $267k.

8 of 39 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 44% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of ENVIRONMENTAL NATURE CENTER’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 39 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

ENVIRONMENTAL NATURE CENTER leans on a few funders — its largest provides 30% of grant income and the top three 61%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

50% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund ENVIRONMENTAL NATURE CENTER.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1.2M arriving through sponsors registered in 7 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
