What Connect Ministries does

Mission

We partner with local nicaraguan pastors and ministry leaders in serving the country through feeding programs, educational materials, mentoring and bible study. Based in managua, nicaragua, connect is a non profit christian ministry with the goal of connecting two cultures and ultimately seeking christ in deeper more meaningful relationships. Connect pursues this calling through multiple ministries including short term mission trips, long term discipleships, and the beca scholarship program, all of which connects sultures around the world to build god's kingdom.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. The short term missions program allows you to step into the nicaraguan culture for 7-10 days to connect with people, experience the reality of life here, and witness all that god is doing in this beautiful county. Our goal in this program is to help people connect with christ and see how god is working outside of their own culture. Short term trips are a combination of experiencing life in nicaragua and working on projects in our area of influence. All short term trips are completely tailored to your team, which means the projects are based on your team's talents and skill set. Whether your team is full of students or working professionals, god can use you on a short term trip.

  2. The beca kids program is a scholarship based on a program providing children and youth with financial, emotional, and spiritual support. The first priority with this program is to be a dependable advocate for the kids involved. This includes having monthly support meetings with each individual, together as a group, and serving together quarterly.

  3. As a connect disciple, you will experience one-on-one mentorship, build relationships with nicaraguans and north americans, and dig deep into god's word. You will be able to discuss, search, challenge, and ask questions about your faith in a safe environment. You will go out in the community and invest time into people. Based on your strengths and abilities, you will also help with different parts of the ministry. The discipleship program with connect nicaragua is all about love.

The 3 programs described on its FY2024 Form 990, listed largest first by expense. Program spending in total: $157,679.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 3 funders, grant income rose $13k → $23k.

5 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 91% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of CONNECT MINISTRIES’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

CONNECT MINISTRIES leans on a few funders — its largest provides 49% of grant income and the top three 91%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

91% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund CONNECT MINISTRIES.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

91% of CONNECT MINISTRIES's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $15k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside Washington, across 1 state.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $158k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
