01What it does

What Christian Healthcare Ministries Inc does

Mission

To glorify god, show christian love, and experience god's presence as christians share each other's medical bills.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. Founded in 1981, christian healthcare ministries (chm) is the original health care sharing ministry for christians. Chm is a nonprofit voluntary cost-sharing ministry through which participating christians pay each other's medical bills. Chm is based on galatians 6:2 and acts 2 and 4. Galatians 6:2 states, "bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of christ." acts 2:44-45 states, and all that believed were together and had all things common; and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need." acts 4:32 states, and the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul; neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common." chm is based on these biblical teachings that the family of god comes together and bears each other's burdens. Ministry members put these teachings into practice by voluntarily contributing their resources to share (pay) each other's medical bills so that no one is in need. Chm members have accomplished this task by satisfying more than $11.8 billion in medical bills since inception. In 2024, members sent $639,376,957 for medical bills to…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 7 funders, grant income rose $25k → $111k.

7 of 15 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 80% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of CHRISTIAN HEALTHCARE MINISTRIES INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

CHRISTIAN HEALTHCARE MINISTRIES INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 25% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

80% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund CHRISTIAN HEALTHCARE MINISTRIES INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

55% of CHRISTIAN HEALTHCARE MINISTRIES INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 60% give in more than one year at all.

Where its funders are

80% of CHRISTIAN HEALTHCARE MINISTRIES INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $165k that is directly attributable, 70% of it comes from funders outside Ohio, across 8 states.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $661k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
