01What it does

What Bread & Roses Housing Inc does

Mission

Create, preserve and advocate for affordable housing opportunities for low-income families; support families' goals of self sufficiency, education and empowerment; improve economically distressed neighborhoods, and advocate for the affordable housing needs of families' goals of self sufficienct, eudcation and empowerment.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. Bread and roses housing's affordable home ownership opportunities are among the most accessible and affordable in new england. Its community land trust model, a progressive solution to community change, takes the value of the land out of the home-buying process, preserving the land as a community resource while opening the door to home ownership to very low income families. Besides creating and preserving affordable home ownership opportunities for households traditionally excluded from the housing market, our family support program provides education and training, as well as networking and organizing opportunities to ensure families' continued success. Advocating for the housing needs of low income families through collaborative partnerhips is a key priority for the organization. Since its inception, bread & roses housing has conducted education seminars for over 2,700 low income, first time homebuyers and enabled 54 families to obtain and maintain their own home - families that might have never had the opportunity to purchase their own property.

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 4 funders to 11 funders, grant income rose $57k → $123k.

1 of 21 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 0% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $132 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
