What Bradford County Regional Arts Council Inc does

Mission

The bradford county regional arts council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building and supporting a thriving regional arts community by: a) advocating for the arts; b) cultivating quality arts programming; and c) preserving bradford county's historic theaters as venues for performances, community events, and movies.

As stated on its FY2021 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Live performances and film presentation (includes regranting to others for live performances): the bcrac presents live performances in its historic theatres through the youth series, the nightlife on the susquehanna series and numerous stand-alone shows. Films are presented daily in the historic theatres as well. Based on ticket sales it is estimated that this program directly serves 105,000 people yearly. The bcrac works with the pennsylvania council on the arts to fairly distribute state funds to arts organizations who provide festivals, live performances, and other arts presentations. While not directly serving people who enjoy these events, this program indirectly serves an estimated 55,000 people from the wider region. While the initial restoration of the three bcrac historic theatres are complete, there is on-going capital expenditures and maintenance required by these wonderful hundred year old arts facilities.

  2. Arts in education program (includes missoula childrens theatre residencies): the bcrac has received national and state awards for its arts in education program. Typically, artists are funded to perform residency work with schools and community organizations to not only bring the arts to people but to help them learn skills in alternative ways.based on average residency numbers, it is estimated that over 900 students receive direct intense arts experiences during the multiple day residencies. Indirectly another 3,200 children and adults are exposed to the artists through group performances. Many of these students would not be exposed to quality arts activities without the bcrac arts in education program.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 5 funders, grant income rose $500 → $30k.

3 of 10 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 28% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of BRADFORD COUNTY REGIONAL ARTS COUNCIL INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

BRADFORD COUNTY REGIONAL ARTS COUNCIL INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 38% of grant income and the top three 79%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

93% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund BRADFORD COUNTY REGIONAL ARTS COUNCIL INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $36k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
