01What it does

What Black Male Voter Project Ef Inc does

Mission

To engage Black men and encouage them to participate in their civic duties, with the aim of helping them become full citizens.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Majority of our resources are spent on reaching Black men where they are, so we do a lot of out reach in spaces that are prone to have Black men. doing this work we were able to reach Black men that are not normally civically engaged and bring them into the fold and get them to do things like get library cards and participate in town and county meetings and other activities. This represents a huge accomplishment for us as it is the pathway to full citizenship for Black men.

Our program uses community organizers, focus groups, club ambassadors, concerts, trips and community gatherings to focus on Black men and issues most important to them. Our efforts are grounded in trying to create safe spaces for Black men, especially those who are impacted by the criminal justice system.

Who funds it, year by year

2021 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 6 funders, grant income fell $360k → $299k.

14 of 21 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 68% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

72% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund BLACK MALE VOTER PROJECT EF INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $2.4M arriving through sponsors registered in 9 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
