What Birthday Bash Box does
Mission
Birthday Bash Box exists to lessen the impact of poverty on education and social-emotional development by creating joyful birthday experiences for children in underserved communities. The organization provides personalized birthday boxes filled with gifts, books, and celebration items, using celebration as a gateway to literacy, confidence, and family connection.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
The Birthday Box Program: Birthday Bash Box provides personalized birthday boxes to children and underserved communities, each field with gifts, books, and celebration items, tailored to the child's interests. In 2025, the organization continued to distribute boxes through its partnerships with schools, nonprofit organizations, and community organizations. Each box is designed to support early literacy, confidence, and a sense of belonging by pairing joyful celebrations with access to books and educational resources. Research shows that access to books in the home, coupled with positive experiences, is a key driver of reading development and long-term academic success. Hundreds of children and their families were served through this program.
$48,555 spent70% of program spendingThe Book Bash Borogram: Book Bash events are interactive literacy experiences where children participate in read aloud and hands-on activities and leave with multiple books that they chose to take home, including the book of the Day that is sometimes signed and read by the author. In 2025, Birthday Bash Box hosted two Book Bashes distributing hundreds of books to elementary age children. These events are intentionally designed to make reading joyful and engaging while reinforcing the connection between positive experiences and learning. Research supports that when children associate reading with fun, connection, and celebration, they are more likely to develop consistent reading habits. Families also participate, creating shared learning experiences that strengthen literacy at home.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2020, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2020, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $10k to $27k (+173%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.

Who funds it, year by year
2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 5 funders, grant income rose $3k → $3k.
1 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 4% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

How concentrated its funding is
BIRTHDAY BASH BOX leans on a few funders — its largest provides 52% of grant income and the top three 90%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
Largest funder’s share by year: 2020 95% · 2021 58% · 2022 95% · 2023 63% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
55% of BIRTHDAY BASH BOX's grant income comes from Texas funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $853 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
