01What it does

What Ashtabula County Family YMCA does

Mission

To put christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy body, mind, and spirit for all.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Youth Development - The Ashtabula County YMCA is committed to nurturing the potential of every child and teen. We believe all kids have great potential and deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That's why we help young people cultivate values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. Our YMCA programs, such as our Early Learning Academy, Success Before/After School, Teen Programs, and Day Camp, offer a range of experiences that enrich social-emotional, cognitive and physical growth. Expenses include subsidies and direct financial assistance that make participation possible for many of the young people we engage.

  2. Healthy Living - The Ashtabula County YMCA is committed to improving America's health and well-being, community by community. We bring families closer together, encourage good health and foster connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, people in our community are receiving the support, guidance and resources they need to achieve greater health in spirit, mind and body. This is particularly important as our nation struggles with chronic disease and obesity, families wrestle with work/life balance and individuals search for personal fulfillment. Our programs are accessible, affordable and open to all faiths, back-grounds, abilities and income levels.

  3. Social Responsibility - The Ashtabula County YMCA believes in giving back and supporting our neighbors. We have been listening and responding to our community's most critical social needs for almost 150 years. Y programs, such at Togetherhood, CPR, First Aid and AED, English as a Second Language, Lifeguarding, Military Outreach Initiative and volunteerism opportunities are examples of how we deliver training, resources and support that empower our neighbors to effect change, bridge gaps and overcome obstacles. We engage YMCA members, participants and volunteers in activities that strengthen our community and pave the way for future generations to thrive.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 6 funders, grant income rose $54k → $464k.

1 of 11 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 8% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of ASHTABULA COUNTY FAMILY YMCA’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

ASHTABULA COUNTY FAMILY YMCA leans on a few funders — its largest provides 44% of grant income and the top three 74%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

78% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund ASHTABULA COUNTY FAMILY YMCA.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

83% of ASHTABULA COUNTY FAMILY YMCA's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 82% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $111k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
