01What it does

What Youth Run Nola Inc does

Mission

Youth run nola creates and empowers a community of healthy, young leaders through running. We support youth through an intensive eight-month guided training program of twice weekly practices and monthly events overseen by teacher-coaches and volunteer running buddies. Our program combats the obstacles facing our youth - many of whom cope with unsafe, unhealthy, and unsupportive circumstances - with positive, structured after-school engagement.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. The organization supported 400 youth ages 10-18 through a full year programming of ten local distance races of 5k 10k and half marathon distances. For each race the program was entirely free for youth participants so the organization provided all race registrations healthy snacks bus transportation to and from the event and equipment necessary for participating in the race (shoes shirt hydration). The organization also hosted weekend saturday practices at 4 regional parks for youth and families from october through february. The organization hosted its sixth-annual 504k a 5-kilometer race through crescent park in new orleans and supported over 500 youth across the finish line and an additional 250 family members. Participation for youth was free and family members received a significant discount to participate. The race day also included about 600 community members who joined for the race to support young people a pre race yoga session and dance warm up and post-race festiv

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 4 funders to 7 funders, grant income rose $129k → $140k.

4 of 24 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 36% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of YOUTH RUN NOLA INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 23 of 24 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

YOUTH RUN NOLA INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 34% of grant income and the top three 77%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

63% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund YOUTH RUN NOLA INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $444k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
