01What it does

What Young and Brave Inc does

Mission

Dedicated to helping today's youth beat cancer. We aim to help these brave fighters and their families overcome the challenges and hardships brought upon by cancer. Built on the foundation of love we exist to inspire, encourage, inform, as well as to invest directly into treatment and recovery. We do so through networking, fundraising drives, community building, and financial support. Our one goal is to fight cancer alongside those that shouldn't fight alone.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. Our foundation raises funds for families of young adults battling cancer. We aim to educate, inform as well as invest directly in the families to help with the burden and hardships brought on by a cancer diagnosis. During this year, the foundation has donated to 6 different cancer patients and their families. The recipients are able to use the funds to pay for medical expenses, living expenses and/or help compensate for lost wages due to illness. Additionally, an online fundraising platform was created and maintained where young cancer patients and their families can tell their stories, offer and receive emotional support, and the general public can donate funds directly to patients struggling with cancer.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 5 funders, grant income rose $9k → $35k.

4 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 28% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of YOUNG AND BRAVE INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

YOUNG AND BRAVE INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 60% of grant income and the top three 84%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

40% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund YOUNG AND BRAVE INC.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2018 66% · 2019 100% · 2020 97% · 2021 92% · 2022 56% · 2023 30% — diversifying over time.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $26k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
