Events in northern virginia provided opportunities to connect with supporters in a key audience market, strengthen relations with patrons and donors, and encourage new audiences to experience the festival. Wintergreen music also piloted a new community engagement model in wintergreen, inviting neighbors and friends of current patrons and board members to introductory gatherings that fostered new connections and welcomed prospective attendees into the wintergreen music community. In december, wintergreen music partnered with rockfish presbyterian church and the virginia consort to present a holiday concert, deepening connections within the nelson county community and reinforcing the organization's year-round commitment to serving the region through music.
The lead cooperative (learn, explore, adapt, diversify) is an innovative training program that provides exceptional young artists and arts leaders at the cusp of their careers the real-world experience and mentorship they need to thrive. Each summer, a select group of approximately 30 students is selected from a pool of applicants from across the country to attend a two-week intensive program, which runs alongside the festival. Training is offered in instrumental and vocal performance, conducting, composition, collaborative piano, and arts administration. Emerging leaders study with acclaimed faculty and professional musicians of the wintergreen festival orchestra, with several opportunities to perform side by side with professionals. Studies include program-specific classes, cross-disciplinary workshops, masterclasses, and chamber music. Curriculum provides exposure both within and outside of students' primary discipline, offering practical insight into the business, operational and artistic aspects of the music industry. Lead is an integral component of wm's vision to achieve excellence in musical performance and teaching, and to prepare passionate and talented students to find…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.

Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2020 to 2021, from $119k to $304k (+156%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 5 funders, grant income rose $400 → $92k.
7 of 12 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 74% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of WINTERGREEN PERFORMING ARTS INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
WINTERGREEN PERFORMING ARTS INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 25% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left
74% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund WINTERGREEN PERFORMING ARTS INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2018 56% · 2019 94% · 2020 50% · 2021 53% · 2022 28% · 2023 54% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
67% of WINTERGREEN PERFORMING ARTS INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 58% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
74% of WINTERGREEN PERFORMING ARTS INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $129k that is directly attributable, 92% of it comes from funders outside Virginia, across 4 states.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $375k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
