Programs
Stewardship - We make sure our 2,863 acres and 29.5 miles of trails are properly cared for. Expenses are property taxes, liability insurance, and trail and access road maintenance. Other stewardship activity includes invasive weed control and boundary markings. Total volunteer stewardship hours by Board Members and others total 2,405 hours, with a value $82,717. This value is based on the Value of Volunteer Hours provided by Independent Sector.org. This value is not part of the Statement of Revenue or Statement Functional Expenses on pages 9 and 10, respectively.
$38,859 spent96% of program spendingOutdoor recreation -- Our main goal is to help people connect with nature, both through our trail network and from programs we offer. Many of the trails have kiosks and maps for users. Our programs include guided walks open to the community and an annual Accessibility Day for people who cannot walk to one of our summits. The guided walks help people learn more about the environment, as does the "Field Note" section in our newsletter. Expenses include trail maps, brochures, other kiosk material and trail maintenance. Volunteers worked 1121.75 hours on trail development and maintenance, for a value of $38,577.
$1,354 spent3% of program spendingEducation -- Local schools use the Pinnacle lean-to and trails for field trips and environmental study, and some students do community service projects such as helping to remove invasive species. We sponsor a naturalist who accompanies elementary school students on hikes on Pinnacle land to help with their environmental education. Board Members provide guided walks to points of interest, ie to locations such as Bald Hill, Lily Pond, Creature Rock, and to areas of blooming spring flowers. Volunteers worked 73.5 hours on education programs at a donated value of $2,528.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2021, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2021, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $3.9M to $4.2M (+9%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2021 10% · 2022 33% · 2023 3% · 2024 50% · 2025 2%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
84% of WINDMILL HILL PINNACLE ASSOCIATION’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (88% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 4 funders, grant income rose $8k → $12k.
4 of 12 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 47% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of WINDMILL HILL PINNACLE ASSOCIATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
WINDMILL HILL PINNACLE ASSOCIATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 40% of grant income and the top three 76%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
83% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund WINDMILL HILL PINNACLE ASSOCIATION.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2018 100% · 2020 100% · 2021 30% · 2022 81% · 2023 83% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
25% of WINDMILL HILL PINNACLE ASSOCIATION's funders are still giving 2 years after their first grant; 67% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
WINDMILL HILL PINNACLE ASSOCIATION draws 95% of its grant income from funders outside Vermont, across 6 states in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $195k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
