What Una Vida does

Mission

To empower community members with the resources they need to thrive while building community, fostering connection and inspiring a lifestyle of service.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Food Distributions:Una Vida hosts regular food distributions that serve over 1,500 people a month. Recipients of our distribution shop in-person for the grocery items of their choosing. We also offer a delivery program for people who are physically unable to make our distributions due to health or mobility differences. Our food is provided by our partnership with the Redwood Empire Food Bank, our Grocery Recovery Programs with different businesses in Sonoma County, and generosly donated by individual donors.

This food is for the recipient and their household and is not shared with Una Vida's food distribution programs.

  3. Community Closet:The Una Vida Community Closet is a new program that began in 2025. Our Community Closet provides clothing, shoes, and children's books and toys. People of all ages and sizes are invited to visit and shop for the items they want at no-cost. We receive an average of 400 visitors each month with hundreds of pounds of donations coming in regularly.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 3 funders, grant income fell $20k → $19k.

4 of 9 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 88% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of UNA VIDA’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

UNA VIDA leans on a few funders — its largest provides 66% of grant income and the top three 88%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

89% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund UNA VIDA.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

20% of UNA VIDA's funders are still giving 2 years after their first grant; 33% give in more than one year at all.

first grant+1y+2y

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

88% of UNA VIDA's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $13k that is directly attributable, 81% of it comes from California funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $102k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
