What The Wilson Research Foundation does

Mission

In response to the needs of the physically disabled, The Wilson Research Foundation is dedicated to providing funding for research, education, technology and other needs in support of mississippi methodist rehabilitation center.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. The Wilson Research Foundation is the primary support for methodist rehabilitation center's clinical research and education program "center for neuroscience and neurological recovery". The end-goal is to achieve better outcomes for patients, to determine what strategies work best, in whom and why, for recovery to each patient's potential. Over the years, the foundation has granted close to $14 million in grants to support clinical (human) research and provide therapists education/training in the use of innovative technologies. The research program has 4,500 feet of dedicated space at methodist, including a state-of-the-art neuro robotics lab, motion analysis lab and various therapy systems on the patient floors that serve dual roles as research and therapy tools. This work has resulted in over 330 publications in medical journals and presentations at many conferences. A major contribution of our research involves developing more effective ways to control muscle spasticity, a common, debilitating complication of serious stroke, traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury. The research program elevates care and outcomes at methodist rehabilitation center. Provided a grant to…

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 10 funders to 15 funders, grant income rose $329k → $378k.

5 of 28 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 3% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $65k from one payer (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Mississippi Methodist Hospital Rehabilitation Center Inc). These are real filings, and they are not money THE WILSON RESEARCH FOUNDATION raised.

From the IRS filings of THE WILSON RESEARCH FOUNDATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

THE WILSON RESEARCH FOUNDATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 46% of grant income and the top three 72%; half comes from just 2 funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $129k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
