What The Upcounty Hub Inc does
Mission
The Hub was founded with the philosophy of providing residents with food and essential services, allowing them to maintain their privacy and diginity. The residual impact of Covid-19,new immigrants and inflation has created a greater demand for services. Our goal is to connect impoverished populations to fundamental,culturally-competentent resources.
As stated on its FY2023 Form 990.
Program
The Upcounty Hub has been recognized for its work to fight food insecurity with awards, news features, and distinguished visitors. The Hub was the first county food hub created during the pandemic. The leadership of the hub helped to create 7 more hubs in the county. We are known for building partnerships with other non-profit and private sector organizations to support our food insecurity mission for our upcounty neighbors. Thanks to partnerships with other nonprofit organizations and government agencies, the Hub currently feeds around 1,400 families per week. There are drive-thru food distributions 4 days per week, and walk-in pantry 5 times per month. We also offer case management to connect people with rental/housing assistance, primary care physicians, and other social and healthcare services. In calendar year 2024, the Hub was able to reach 64,907 duplicative households in upper Montgomery County. The Hub can reach members of the community that others have not, particularly undocumented immigrants and refugees, due to the trust that we have established with our clients.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2023, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2023, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2024 to 2025, from $466k to $931k (+100%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2023 28% · 2024 32% · 2025 42%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
100% of The Upcounty Hub Inc’s revenue is contributions — more reliant on donations than three-quarters of its peers (94% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2022 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 7 funders, grant income rose $75k → $205k.
3 of 12 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 16% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of The Upcounty Hub Inc’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
The Upcounty Hub Inc leans on a few funders — its largest provides 36% of grant income and the top three 64%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
36% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund The Upcounty Hub Inc.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2022 53% · 2023 68% — growing more concentrated.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
82% of The Upcounty Hub Inc's grant income comes from Maryland funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $125k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
