What The Present Theatre Company Inc does
Mission
The present theatre company is indie | united. And together, we're
As stated on its FY2017 Form 990.
Program
While we celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the new york international fringe festival in 2017, we also took a one-year hiatus from producing the usual festival. A lot changed since we first envisioned the festival in the mid 90's; so we started from a blank canvas: re-evaluating everything about what a fringe festival wants and needs to be in 2018 and beyond. The blank canvas project included convenings, conversations, and a public blog - connecting with all of our constituencies and working with advocates and partners and aligned organizations to create the festival of the future. The resulting three year strategic plan (fringenyc 20/20) rebuilds the new york international fringe festival in a much stronger, more sustainable way - for our next twenty years.
The first program described on its most recent Form 990, which lists programs largest first by expense.
Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2021: the base held at 1 funder, grant income fell $5k → $5.
1 of 2 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 0% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of THE PRESENT THEATRE COMPANY INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
THE PRESENT THEATRE COMPANY INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 100% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2018 100% · 2019 100% · 2020 100% · 2021 100% — broadly stable.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
100% of THE PRESENT THEATRE COMPANY INC's grant income comes from New York funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $10 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
