What The Fountain for the Natural Order of Our Existence does
Mission
The fountains purpose is to promote international understanding of original nations people and their territories, which enable people to develop an appreciation for other societies, their traditions and culture. With the recognition that indigenous lands are at the greatest risk of exploitation and development, the fountain is dedicated to helping to protect these lands which contain approximately 80% of the world's biocultural diversity through contributions to indigenous land trusts and/or other stewardship models that are activated to preserve these territories.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
Sacred territories: we work with original nations around the planet to honor, respect, and help protect their traditional homelands through projects and land trusts that put the land back into the original peoples stewardship. Currently, we are working with the mamos of the kggaba nation of la sierra nevada of santa martha and have secured four of nine land trusts in their name. Working with members of the lakota nation, we are researching ways to begin a similar landback program with them in the black hills, south dakota. The black hills is the sacred territory of the lakota people and has been taken and commodified at the expense of the health of the land and the original peoples of that land.

In colombia, our ongoing support with the kggaba nations pagamentos (specific prayers and offerings to the guardian spirits of the sacred sites done by the kggaba to help support the balance of mother earth). Additionally, we have helped the kggaba initiate a research center, a tapir restoration project, and guinea pig farming project, all with the intention to help preserve biodiversity on their sacred lands. In the black hills, usa, we support a garden project that grows food for the lakota community, a school lunch program, and a yearly sundance ceremony.

Our work focuses on shifting economics away from the commodity driven profit-at-the-expense-of-the-earth-and-living-beings model to one where our choices and actions are rather regenerative and inline with the health of the whole.
$125,328 spentof which $117,209 as grants36% of program spendingFiscal sponsorship: the fountain regards fiscal sponsorship as an act of practicing the original principles of relations. The fountain, throughout its history, has been a place of incubation, a place where germinating organizations and movements can come to be held as they grow and develop so they can follow the instructions to give a foundation for their work to grow in a consistent and strong way for mother earth and all her creation. Agreements are signed with the sponsored organization so as they grow and develop we all stay consistent with our legal and ethical obligations and meet the core principles that are the foundation of the fountain. The agreements outline the level of services, reciprocity, and requirements for compliance between the fountain and the organization entering into the fiscal sponsorship agreement.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2023, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2023, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $230k to $307k (+33%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.

Who funds it, year by year
Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.
4 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 23% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
THE FOUNTAIN FOR THE NATURAL ORDER OF OUR EXISTENCE draws 100% of its grant income from funders outside Oregon, across 2 states in all.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $122k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
