01What it does

What Terraclear Foundation does

Mission

The foundation is dedicated to ensuring access to clean water, safeguarding child rights, and protecting the environment. Its purpose is to promote charitable, social, and development-oriented activities, particularly in southeast asia.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2024 return the organization reported starting a significant new program.

Flood relief - in 2024, laos experienced widespread flooding due to unusually heavy monsoon rainfall along with typhoons. According to unicef, as of october 2024, almost 200,000 people were impacted by flooding and access to safe water and sanitation was critically limited for 92,000 people across the flood affected regions. Terraclear Foundation supported the distribution of 200 filters to families impacted by flooding as a way to provide access to clean water in a critical time of need.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

  1. Terracare - this program brings together donors from around the world to fund vouchers for poor and marginalized families throughout laos. The initial 3-year program, between 2020 and 2023, provided over 10,000 water filters along with comprehensive health and sanitation training. Terracare now targets an additional 2,400 recipients in 2024 and 2025. In 2024, terraclear production in laos distributed 1,513 filters related to the terracare program providing access to clean water and hygiene and sanitation training for an estimated 6,148 people in 296 villages. Terraclear Foundation directly supported the distribution of 500 filters and provision of health and sanitation training to an estimated 2,591 people.

  2. Terrakids - a program that hosts educational programs with subjects like children's rights, safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene. Terrakids partners with district education ministries in laos to identify at-risk and needy schools. Once a school has been identified by the department, our staff surveys the school and makes a plan with the school to place water filters in classrooms and hold a day of educational programs for students and teachers. In 2024, terraclear production in laos provided 312 filters to classrooms benefiting more than 7,140 students and 282 teachers. Terraclear Foundation directly supported the distribution of 300 filters related to the terrakids program along with 2 focused teacher training events.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.

3 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 99% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of TERRACLEAR FOUNDATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

TERRACLEAR FOUNDATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 85% of grant income and the top three 99%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

99% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund TERRACLEAR FOUNDATION.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

99% of TERRACLEAR FOUNDATION's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $700 that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside Pennsylvania, across 2 states.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $127k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
