01What it does

What Suncoast Stars Community does

Mission

Our Work & Enrichment program offers adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities a variety of enrichment classes including dance, music, fitness and nutrition, book club, Bible study, sign language, crafts and more. We engage our clients cognitively, physically, socially, and spiritually - the whole person. We are also developing specially modified business enterprises where we slow down the pace, modify tasks, and provide staff and volunteer support to enable these adults to enjoy meaningful, productive activities.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. When individuals with Down Syndrome, Autism, or other special needs finish high school, with rare exception, they do not go on to college or go on to pursue careers. Most will never drive a car or live in their own apartment. These adults often face a future of isolation, boredom, and depression. Suncoast Stars Community (SSC) is dismantling the status quo for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) by helping them unlock their potential and experience abundant living. We recognize that adults with IDD thrive best in a structured environment with regular routines, stimulating activities, and peer support. SSC was formed in 2023 to address this important need in our community. In 2025, SSC served 22 individuals in our Work & Enrichment program, an increase of eight participants versus 2024. We also expanded programming to three days per week, following our launch in 2023 where we operated only one day per week. Additionally, to support our current clients and prepare for further growth, we hired an additional program teacher in 2025. We engaged 21 volunteers, an increase of 10 compared to 2023; we expanded our first business enterprise - a greeting card studio…

Each line starts at 100 in 2024, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2024, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.

2 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 26% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of SUNCOAST STARS COMMUNITY’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

SUNCOAST STARS COMMUNITY leans on a few funders — its largest provides 42% of grant income and the top three 76%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

26% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund SUNCOAST STARS COMMUNITY.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $16k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
