What Standing Straight does
Mission
Provide spine deformity surgical and medical services to extremely deformed impoverished children in areas without access to medical care and to train the local medical and surgical staff in these regions for early diagnosis and unnecessary severe deformities and death in young adults.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
In 2024 the organization was able to successfully complete 2 in person medical mission. More than 30 highly skilled surgical and medical staff volunteered and provided their expertise. The mission's accomplishment included 19 extremely complex lifesaving spine surgeries for a group of extremely impoverished children with no other access to medical care. The service saved a few children from paralysis, gave a child a chance to get out of a wheelchair and walk, relieved all children from severe daily pains and difficulty in taking care of their basic necessities. After the surgical care all children were able to get up, stand straight, and most are either back to or getting ready to get back to school. The surgeries of the children also freed more than 50 family members from daily and routine care giving duties for the patients and has enabled them to get more rest and have more time to earn money to assist with their extreme impoverished living conditions. Other services delivered by the organization was online screening of MRI and X-ray of patients who needed emergency care and virtually assisted and guided local surgeons to save a child from paralysis and allowed our team of…

Through virtual guidance our team of surgical and neuromonitoring volunteers have been able to guide the lesser trained surgical staff in remote areas to help reduce further damage and serious negative medical consequences during 2023 and for future years thereby reducing serious complications of surgery.
$3,392 spent3% of program spendingOne of our accomplishments for the program service has been to move away from collecting funds via mails and tracking detail donor information by volunteers. We use a lot of social media to promote and get donation from our current donors and mainly all the medical staff who are and have been participating in these Medical Missions. Also, by using Paypal services and asking most of our donors to donate using our donate button it has saved the organization's volunteers time to focus on medical mission planning and other services that allow the organization to improve our services. We do have donors who like mailed documents showing our progress and services provided so in 2023 we did mailing of documents as well but we plan on doing that just every few years.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2021, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2021, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $273k to $361k (+32%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
96% of STANDING STRAIGHT’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (100% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2018 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 4 funders, grant income rose $8k → $27k.
5 of 7 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 99% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of STANDING STRAIGHT’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 6 of 7 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
STANDING STRAIGHT leans on a few funders — its largest provides 54% of grant income and the top three 94%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
99% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund STANDING STRAIGHT.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2018 100% · 2019 100% · 2020 64% · 2021 100% · 2022 55% · 2023 45% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
99% of STANDING STRAIGHT's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $1k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside California, across 1 state.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $136k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
