Programs

  1. We are a charitable homeless shelter providing 16 beds nightly, 365 days a year, on a first come, first served basis. We provide 3 meals daily to our guests including bag lunches. There is zero tolerance for drugs or alcohol use. All guests must attend at least 1 Alcoholics Anonymous meeting a week. We hold 2 AA meetings on premises open to the community. One paid staff member is on duty at the house at all times. Staff serve as mentors to guests as well. Weekly interviews are conducted by staff to monitor job status and goals of guests. It is expected that within 14 days a man will have a job & open a bank account. Pay stubs and bank statements are required as proof. Many men will go out every day very early to day labor. It is required that all show up at the evening meal where sharing information and words of encouragement are exchanged. In 2025, we had 126 intakes with 50 men staying 3 days or less. 27men stayed for the normal stay of between 60 to 90 days and went on to independent living with a job. In 2024, we had 157 intakes with 67 men staying 3 days or less. 35 men stayed for the normal stay of between 60 to 90 days and went on to independent living with a job. This is…

Alternatively, a bag lunch is handed to anyone who wishes to take one and leave. Hot soup and sandwich in Winter; fruit and sandwich in warm months; and coffee and pastry are provided. Often local families and groups assist us in greeting guests, serving and preparing food. In 2025, our average distribution was 103 meals per soup kitchen.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2019 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 3 funders, grant income rose $1k → $18k.

5 of 14 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 89% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of ST FRANCIS-ST JOSEPH CATHOLIC WORKER HOUSE’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 13 of 14 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

ST FRANCIS-ST JOSEPH CATHOLIC WORKER HOUSE leans on a few funders — its largest provides 41% of grant income and the top three 89%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

89% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund ST FRANCIS-ST JOSEPH CATHOLIC WORKER HOUSE.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2019 83% · 2020 68% · 2021 92% · 2022 84% · 2023 86% — growing more concentrated.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

17% of ST FRANCIS-ST JOSEPH CATHOLIC WORKER HOUSE's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 50% give in more than one year at all.

first grant+1y+2y+3y

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

89% of ST FRANCIS-ST JOSEPH CATHOLIC WORKER HOUSE's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $54k that is directly attributable, 88% of it comes from Ohio funders.

Ohio out of state home

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $462k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
