01What it does

What Snip and Tip Inc does

Mission

Snip and Tip Inc is organized and operated exclusively for the prevention of cruelty to animals, as well as for charitable scientific and educational purposes within the meaning of Sec. 501(c)(3) of IRC of 1986, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code.

As stated on its FY2023 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. The largest program at Snip and Tip Inc currently is the promoting and facilitating of population control of community cats through humane trapping, spaying/neutering and providing any necessary veterinary care these animals might need. During 2023 we had 790 community cats graduate through this program, which was more than double what we originally projected. Veterinary costs for this program include actual surgery fees and vaccinations, totaling $35,460. Our long term goal is to increase the number of community cats we can sterilize and vaccinate, thus reducing and preventing cruelty to them.

  2. The second largest program at Snip and Tip Inc during 2023 was to provide housing and transportation services in connection with the spaying/neutering and veterinary care. The nonprofit rented a heated and cooled space for housing the animals before and after surgery (1-3 days depending on medical order by veterinarian) and provided transportation from their trapping location, to housing facility, to surgery and back. This program was partly done by volunteers in the beginning of the year, however, as the program grew, it needed to be expanded and provided funds for, totaling $33,147.85. In the future the nonprofit is planning to purchase its own facility that would serve partially for this housing purpose as well.

  3. During 2023 Snip and Tip Inc also provided program services that connect to the main 3 objectives, that included helping low income families and community cat caretakers with food, as well as providing foster volunteers with food, litter, medications and preventatives for the animals in their care. This expenses totaled $1,200. The nonprofit anticipated these expenses to go up in the future as the operations grow.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2021 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 2 funders, grant income fell $8k → $8k.

3 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 63% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of SNIP AND TIP INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

SNIP AND TIP INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 35% of grant income and the top three 87%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

99% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund SNIP AND TIP INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

63% of SNIP AND TIP INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $43k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside Texas, across 3 states.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $72k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
