01What it does

What Running2bwell does

Mission

We help people develop healthier lifestyles with the objective of better mental health. We're open to all but our focus is with those struggling with substance abuse or mental health issues. We lead regular group run/walks. We provide free shoes and race entries once people have come to three meetings. We provide free exercise classes. We are open to all and we do not distinguish between those seeking and those wishing to help. We operate under the simple principle that we all have issues and we all have the resonsibility to contribute.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. Running2bwell was formally established in 2018 with a mission to help at-risk individuals with mental health and substance abuse issues improve their lives through regular exercise and healthier life choices. Scientific studies have repeatedly shown that regular exercise is an effective preventive measure and treatment for these issues. We currently serve at-risk individuals in a multi-county region in northeast ohio by structuring group meetings 6 days per week at 12 locations where volunteer mentors lead group runs and walks and provide a safe environment to discuss mental health and addiction concerns. Our major program expense consists of providing a new pair of running shoes to individuals who attend at least three group runs, as we believe this both motivates the individual to continue to return as well as mitigate potential injury from wearing old shoes. During cold weather months we pay to continue these group meetings indoors at local gyms and recreation centers. Our volunteer mentors also receive regular training in both mental and physical first aid.

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2023: the base held at 1 funder, grant income fell $1k → $500.

1 of 7 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 7% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
