What Rodel Charitable Foundation - De does

Mission

The organization was formed as a supporting organization under irc section 509(a)(3) to support the delaware community foundation. Rodel strengthens delaware's public education system and workforce by connecting partners to advance and implement sustainable solutions.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. Rodel is one of many partners involved in the nationally recognized delaware pathways initiative, a public-private partnership that includes the governor's office, higher education, and major local employers--all working toward creating meaningful job experiences and college-level courses for high schoolers. Rodel worked with partners to create conditions for more than 30,000 students statewide to participate in pathway experiences. Rodel has worked with district and state partners to develop a strategy that support the recruitment and retention of teachers of color. This work has included creating early exposure opportunities for high school students, scaling high-quality teacher preparation programs, building a statewide teacher leadership framework, and supporting the development of culturally affirming schools. Rodel and its partner organization, the vision coalition, have convened hundreds of leaders, community members and educators on a variety important issues across several events, ranging from equitable student funding to career pathways, to diversifying the educator workforce.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 11 funders, grant income rose $380k → $3.5M.

4 of 17 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 25% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $75k from one payer (the payer shares this organization's board, largest The Rodel Foundation). These are real filings, and they are not money RODEL CHARITABLE FOUNDATION - DE raised.

From the IRS filings of RODEL CHARITABLE FOUNDATION - DE’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

RODEL CHARITABLE FOUNDATION - DE leans on a few funders — its largest provides 33% of grant income and the top three 70%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

57% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund RODEL CHARITABLE FOUNDATION - DE.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $3.6M arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
