01What it does

What Rescue Kitties of Hawaii does

Mission

The mission and purpose of Rescue Kitties of Hawaii(rkh) is to rescue abandoned, injured, special needs, and homeless cats on the hawaiian islands, and to provide urgent medical care. Rkh volunteers fight daily to save them from euthanasia due to overpopulation and lack of resources. The goal is to advocate awareness, educate, save cats from harsh conditions in the wild, tnrm, adoption, foster care and networking.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Rescue Kitties of Hawaii rescues abandoned, injured, abused, homeless, and special-needs cats and kittens throughout hawaii. The organization provides emergency and routine veterinary treatment, medication, spay and neuter services, food, shelter, foster care, rehabilitation, and transportation. Once medically and behaviorally prepared for placement, cats are matched with qualified adoptive homes in hawaii and through nonprofit rescue partners on the mainland. During 2025, the organization continued coordinating veterinary care, foster support, interisland and mainland transportation, and permanent placement services for cats that otherwise faced illness, injury, abandonment, or euthanasia.

  2. The organization strengthened the operational capacity necessary to expand and sustain its animal-rescue mission. Activities included improving volunteer coordination, animal-care tracking, transportation planning, foster and adoption support, community outreach, nonprofit partnerships, and internal processes used to respond to cats and kittens in crisis. These efforts improved communication, accountability, continuity of care, and the ability to coordinate medical treatment, transportation, foster placement, and permanent adoption across hawaii and with mainland rescue partners.

  3. To support the 1st exempt purpose of saving hawaii kitties by providing critical care and services that transform these sick, injured, tortured, and abused cats/kittens into a placeable position. The success of the cat/kitten placement has been enhanced by the non-profit partnership in many different states on the mainland, who facilitate adoptions in safe quality homes.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2022 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 4 funders, grant income rose $167 → $23k.

3 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 99% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of RESCUE KITTIES OF HAWAII’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

RESCUE KITTIES OF HAWAII leans on a few funders — its largest provides 59% of grant income and the top three 99%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

99% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund RESCUE KITTIES OF HAWAII.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2022 100% · 2023 73% — diversifying over time.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

99% of RESCUE KITTIES OF HAWAII's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $450 that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from Hawaii funders.

HI

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $63k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
