What Aloha Animal Alliance does
Mission
To save and improve the lives of animals across hawaii county through accessible veterinary care, community education, humane population management, and partnerships that empower residents and organizations to be part of the solution.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
Pop-up mobile veterinary clinics: provided free and low-cost veterinary services through pop-up mobile clinics across hawaii island. In 2025, aaa conducted approximately 36 monthly wellness clinic events on the west and east sides of the island and 3 spay/neuter clinics, serving an estimated 400 household pets. Services included spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, microchipping, and wellness exams, with priority outreach to underserved communities with limited access to affordable veterinary care.
$81,896 spent80% of program spendingCommunity cat management project: implemented phase one of the banyan drive community cat management pilot, a humane colony management program in a high-traffic area bordering businesses and sensitive wildlife habitats in hilo. In 2025, aaa developed colony tracking software to centralize caretaker and colony data, launched an online caretaker certification course, and coordinated with local businesses, feeder volunteers, and environmental stakeholders. Further implementation was constrained by the passage of hawaii county bill 51 in august 2025, which took effect january 1, 2026, creating regulatory uncertainty around community cat management activities on county property.
$16,910 spent16% of program spendingAnimal air transport: coordinated the transport of dogs from aloha ilio rescue in hilo to the arizona humane society, a partnering adoption organization on the mainland, facilitating placement into adoptive homes where hawaiian mixed-breed dogs are in high demand and not commonly available. Aaa managed health clearances, travel logistics, and coordination with receiving rescue partners to ensure safe interstate placement.
