01What it does

What Project Ignite Light does

Mission

To reach out to hurting children world wide through compassion ministry by providing for their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. For 17 years Project Ignite Light continues to provide crucial items needed to hurting children when they are removed from their homes or seen for abuse. As we look to expand our reach we focus on bringing awareness to churches where often large numbers of foster families attend. We utilize training educating and equipping these groups with the items they needed to handing meals, gift baskets and support for new foster families as they accept a new foster child into their home. This has proven to ve very successful in serving more children without having to increase the amount of funds we need to raise.

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 3 funders, grant income rose $1k → $16k.

4 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 93% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of PROJECT IGNITE LIGHT’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

PROJECT IGNITE LIGHT leans on a few funders — its largest provides 44% of grant income and the top three 92%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

93% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund PROJECT IGNITE LIGHT.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2018 100% · 2020 90% · 2021 58% · 2022 90% · 2023 61% — diversifying over time.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

93% of PROJECT IGNITE LIGHT's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $3k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from North Dakota funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $42k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
