01What it does

What Pope's Kids Place does

Mission

Pope's Kids Place provides individualized care for children and young adults with special medical and behavioral needs to strengthen them, their families and the community through unique and exceptional programs.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Eagles house pediatric group home. Eagles house provides 24-7 nursing care for our children. We offer residential, transitional, and respite services in a homelike, caring environment to children from birth to age 18 and their families. Children are cared for by highly skilled and dedicated nursing staff. Many are on ventilators, require daily infusions, are battling cancer or other life-threatening medical diagnoses-some they were born with and some that were acquired after birth. Many of our children are in foster care or are wards of the state. Respite care is at the core of our program. We provide a safe and nurturing place for families to comfortably leave their medically fragile child while taking a family-saving break to rest and rejuvenate, thus helping to keep families intact and strong.

  2. Vivian's house young adult family home. Vivian's house provides the same care as eagles house to young adults, over the age of 18, who are medically fragile and have typically "aged out" of our pediatric group home. Respite for families is at the core of this program as well.

  3. Physical terapy center has expanded the quality of life available to our residents. We converted one of our buildings to provide physical therapy and family support. Half of the building is a large open physical therapy room filled with equipment to help improve the lives of our residents. The other half of the building is available to provide a home like space for the families of our residents to stay free of charge on a short-term as-needed basis. We are created a park-like setting in the middle of our campus. This area serves as a safe place for our residents and their families to enjoy the beautiful world we live in.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base held at 1 funder, grant income fell $500 → $183.

3 of 7 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 43% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of POPE'S KIDS PLACE’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

POPE'S KIDS PLACE leans on a few funders — its largest provides 39% of grant income and the top three 74%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

84% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund POPE'S KIDS PLACE.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $27k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
