01What it does

What Pennsylvania Cpa Foundation does

Mission

The Pennsylvania Cpa Foundation's mission is to inspire young people to pursue careers in accounting and to provide educational, motivational, and financial support to those working to attain the certified public accountant (cpa) credential.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. Cpas work in a myriad of businesses and possess a broad spectrum of skills and knowledge. Studies show that young people who are exposed to, and influenced by, cpas are more likely to consider an accounting career. The Pennsylvania Cpa Foundation provides opportunities for students to learn about career options available to them when they choose to pursue an accounting degree. In addition, the Pennsylvania Cpa Foundation provides financial, educational, and career guidance.a record number of students have chosen accounting as a major in recent years, many are not becoming cpas. This has created a talent gap in accounting firms of all sizes. Leaders of the profession continue to cite talent acquisition and retention as their most critical challenge. The path to become a cpa is not an easy one. But with the right financial, educational, and motivational support, the journey can be less onerous. The Pennsylvania Cpa Foundation works to deliver that through cpa exam and licensing information, updates to the cpa exam, cpa exam scholarship and awareness programing.while many of the Pennsylvania Cpa Foundation's programs reach and support disadvantaged students among prospective cpas,…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 6 funders, grant income rose $3k → $53k.

5 of 11 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 28% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $4.4M from one payer (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants). These are real filings, and they are not money PENNSYLVANIA CPA FOUNDATION raised.

From the IRS filings of PENNSYLVANIA CPA FOUNDATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

PENNSYLVANIA CPA FOUNDATION has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 21% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

46% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund PENNSYLVANIA CPA FOUNDATION.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

40% of PENNSYLVANIA CPA FOUNDATION's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 55% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $40k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
