What Patriots for Disabled Divers does
Mission
The mission of Patriots For Disabled Divers (PFDD) is to provide to the physical, psycholocigal and social benefits of scuba diving to individuals living with cognitive and/or physical disabilities and their family members.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
Scuba Diving Training. In 2024 189 divers contacted PFDD concerning training. 80 divers were approved and 78 began their training. Of the 80 approved divers 59 were PADI Open Water, 19 were PADI advanced open water, 2 were PADI Rescue and 2 were PADI reactivates. Scuba training for a disabled veteran is one that brings joy, adventure, camaraderie and therapy as a life long sport. For those that suffer PTSD, the breathing, pressure and neutral buoyancy provide a calming and peaceful environment. For those with physical disabilities, the neutral buoyancy provides relief from the affects of gravity and relieves pain and mobility issues. Becoming a member of a "dive family" gives the Veteran a social group they can rely on much like they relied on their military unit when they were on active duty or deployed. Being a part of a close knit group, being active, having joy in your life are all besic measures to maintaining mental health and help in suicide prevention.
$35,581 spent86% of program spendingGeorgia Aquarium Trips. In 2024 there were 2 trips. A total of 16 divers and 15 family members enjoyed the generous program sponsored by the GA Aquariums Veterans Immersion Program. PFDD provides airfare, all food and shuttle to and from the airport. The GA Aquarium provides dive equipment, entry, one night hotel and parking. The benefit of these dive trips is to incentivise the PFDD alumni they can make a difference in this world by seeking adventure and doing things that can save the ocean. It reinforces the training and gives the diver an exciting adventure to hook them on the "dive life'.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2020, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2020, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet

How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
100% of PATRIOTS FOR DISABLED DIVERS’s revenue is contributions — more reliant on donations than three-quarters of its peers (39% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year

1 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 15% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2018 100% · 2020 100% · 2021 92% · 2022 100% · 2023 63% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $908 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
