01What it does

What Aqua-Nut Divers does

Mission

Our purposed is to certify disabled veterans to scuba dive at no cost to the student. We work with local veteran groups to identify and interview potential veterans for the program. After they have medical clearances, we teach scuba diving skills through classroom and pool environments. The certifications take place off the coast of california and are overseen by the volunteer staff of Aqua-Nut Divers. Once certified the veterans are encouraged to continue their scuba education with other scuba classes Aqua-Nut Divers offer within the program I.e. Advanced and rescue diver. Veterans are also trained to use specialty scuba equipment to increase their knowledge of scuba activities. Aqua-Nut Divers is committed to diver safety and strives to have a student to staff ratio of 2:1. To encourage veterans to continue diving, we charter dive boats throughout the year for any veteran certified in scuba diving to dive for free the day of the charter.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. In 2025, Aqua-Nut Divers certified four disabled veterans as open water (beginner) scuba divers and also three disabled veterans in advanced certifications. Twelve veterans were trained to use specialty scuba equipment. These newly trained divers will be given the opportunity to increase their knowledge and skill in upcoming classes. There is no cost to the disabled veteran and all staff of Aqua-Nut Divers volunteer their time to the organization's vision of assisting veteran's reentry into workplace and community.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2023: the base held at 1 funder, grant income fell $21k → $175.

1 of 3 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 3% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of AQUA-NUT DIVERS’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

AQUA-NUT DIVERS leans on a few funders — its largest provides 93% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

96% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund AQUA-NUT DIVERS.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $586 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
