01What it does

What New Reformation Publications does

Mission

Our mission is to declare and defend the good news that you are forgiven and free on account of christ alone. 1517 is rooted in the legacy of martin luther and the first evangelicals of the reformation. Our resources are anchored in the central message of the bible: that christ died for sinners and rose for their justification.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Here we still stand: we hold two conferences annually, one in northwest arkansas in the spring and one in san diego in the fall, with speaking presentations and events for the purpose of learning, fortifying and celebrating the gospel truths reclaimed in the reformation and centering attendees' faith in christ, based in the scriptural truths rediscovered in the lutheran reformation. Hwss is also meant to provide a community of people from all over the world who have been freed by the message of the gospel, wherein new friendships can be formed and old friendships strengthened. The conference also includes exhibitors who share common convictions. Attendees will find books, podcasts, mercy ministries, bible study and church helps, along with many other gospel-centered resources.

  3. 1517 podcasts: is the audio program network operated by 1517. 1517 produces and distributes nineteen podcasts across the world's most popular podcast listening platforms. The shows belonging to 1517 podcasts are downloaded over six million times a year. The podcast network exists to declare and defend the gospel of christ, crucified and risen for the forgiveness of sins. The topics of our podcasts cover a broad scope including dedicated platforms for discussing church history, systematic theology, philosophy, and biblical exegesis. The podcast network also works to promote the other resources at 1517 such as books, conferences, academies, and blogs.

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base held at 3 funders, grant income fell $3.0M → $651k.

6 of 8 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 6% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of NEW REFORMATION PUBLICATIONS’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

NEW REFORMATION PUBLICATIONS leans on a few funders — its largest provides 91% of grant income and the top three 98%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund NEW REFORMATION PUBLICATIONS.

How long its funders stay

60% of NEW REFORMATION PUBLICATIONS's funders are still giving 1 year after their first grant; 75% give in more than one year at all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $731k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
