What Mayan Hands Foundation Ltd does
Mission
Mayan Hands Foundation Ltd. Is a fair-trade 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing economic and educational opportunities to mayan women and girls, so that they can build sustainable futures for themselves, their families and communities, as they continue to live within the culture they cherish. Mayan hands offers artisan capacity building programs including leadership and business skill development and product design training. Artisans have the opportunity to participate in health and wellbeing programs focused on access to preventive health. Mayan hands facilitates access to scholarships and school supplies for artisans and their daughters, and organizes cultural exchange tours which generate additional income for artisans.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
The mayan hands economic opportunities program provides fair, reliable income to more than 180 expert maya women artisans by connecting them to clients in the international fair trade market. Living in rural communities, most artisans have little formal education, but through mayan hands they participate in business skill development activities including calculating fair trade wages, tracking production, preparing necessary accounting documentation, and filing taxes. Ongoing design and technical skill training supports women artisans in the development of innovative, top-quality products.
$171,487 spent74% of program spendingMayan hands invests in the next generation by offering access to educational opportunities to both artisans and their daughters. Many maya girls continue to face enormous barriers to education because of geographic access, misogyny-rooted perceptions of girls and women's roles, and high costs. This fiscal year, we provided scholarships and family stipends to 58 students who would not otherwise be able to attend school: 14 in primario (elementary school - 4th - 6th grade), 18 in basico (junior high school), 9 in diversificado (senior high school), 16 in universities and 1 in vocational training. Mayan hands distributed school supplies to 135 children of our artisan partners. Students and their families participate in a twice-yearly interactive program, addressing personal development and gender in society.
$41,089 spent18% of program spendingMayan hands promotes health and well-being through a preventive health program offering culturally sensitive education and clinical treatment. This year, artisans participated in a six-part series of women's health education workshops, led by nurses with content presented in artisans' mayan languages. The workshop series was followed by clinical screenings and treatments focused on prevention of cervical cancer, treatment of common infections, and provision of birth control methods if desired. 118 women participated in the educational workshops; 75 chose to receive cervical cancer screening.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2021 to 2022, from $440k to $683k (+55%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2021 7% · 2022 4%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
48% of MAYAN HANDS FOUNDATION LTD’s revenue is contributions — more earned-revenue than three-quarters of its peers (100% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 2 funders, grant income rose $78 → $6k.
5 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of MAYAN HANDS FOUNDATION LTD’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
MAYAN HANDS FOUNDATION LTD leans on a few funders — its largest provides 71% of grant income and the top three 93%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund MAYAN HANDS FOUNDATION LTD.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2020 100% · 2021 100% · 2022 100% · 2023 99% — broadly stable.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
100% of MAYAN HANDS FOUNDATION LTD's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $145k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
