What Little Buckets Farm Sanctuary does
Mission
Lbfs is a nonprofit vegan sanctuary in virginia. Giving animals a safe and loving home they all so deserve. Many animals are hurt, discarded, too young to survive on their own, have special needs, or are looked over for no fault of their own. At Little Buckets Farm Sanctuary those animals will be given a chance at a new life. They will be rehabilitated if needed, given plenty of food, shelter, love, and the necessary care all while making our farm their new home. They will never again be scared or hungry. They will only know love, having a full tummy and a place to call home while allowing them a chance to show off their personality, play with friends, and share their love with farm friends and become a part of the little buckets family. Through our social channels and in-person sanctuary tours, we show people that farm animals have fun, loving, and sweet personalities just like our domesticated pets. Farm animals have strong family bonds and friendships with each other as well as the
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
Our first achievement and our 1 priority is caring for all rescue animals that started 2024 calling little buckets home. Being a sanctuary, we are providing a forever home to our rescue farm animals, horses, guinea hens, cats and dogs except for a dog or cat who we might rescue who we plan to adopt out. Caring for over 20 goats, 4 steers, 3 donkeys, 5 horses, guinea hens, a pig, dogs and cats is a huge responsibility. We strive every day to give them all everything they need to be happy and healthy no matter if they are 1 year old or a senior or 5 lbs or 2500 lbs. They are provided the outside space they need, shelter and safety, food, fresh water, supplements, enrichment, treats, of course lots of love, and a family to call their own for the rest of their lives. They have daily routines, have regular vet visits & checkups, farrier care if applicable, and provided any extra special care they require to live their best life. And giving our rescue animals love and the life they so deserve is what we give each and everyone them. They are family.
$151,963 spent93% of program spendingIn 2025, we were able to help 3 precious lives. First was a horse in her twenties who had family ties to our other horses and when she needed a forever home, we were there to transport her from maryland, get her all the vet care needed, new friends, and lots of love, food, hay, hoof care and treats. In addtion, we were able to help two dogs. The first was an owner surrender older puppy who was about to be taken to a kill shelter. After getting her spayed, better trained and socialized, we were able to find her an amazing new home. The 2nd dog was at a kill shelter and with his size, I knew he would have a tough time finding a home. We drove 3 hours to save him. We were able to get him all the vet care needed, neutered, and he is now one of our forever sanctuary dogs.
$10,680 spent7% of program spendingWe hosted multiple tours of the sanctuary in 2025 and we get to meet local people as well as many who travel far distances to meet the animals at little buckets. The animals love to walk over and greet everyone, be petted, and show how amazing farm animals are. The animals love and personalities make a huge connection with visitors and we hope everyone leaves the farm with a more compassionate mindset. We once again setup a booth and attended the richmond vegfest. This event allows us to recruit new volunteers, make connections with potential donors and visitors to the sanctuary as well as be able to share lbfs swag available to help us raise funds for the animals.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2021, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2021, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2024 to 2025, from $115k to $59k (−48%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.

Who funds it, year by year
2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 3 funders, grant income rose $6k → $21k.
4 of 7 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 85% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of LITTLE BUCKETS FARM SANCTUARY’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
LITTLE BUCKETS FARM SANCTUARY leans on a few funders — its largest provides 68% of grant income and the top three 87%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
85% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund LITTLE BUCKETS FARM SANCTUARY.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2020 94% · 2021 86% · 2022 40% · 2023 80% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
85% of LITTLE BUCKETS FARM SANCTUARY's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $13k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside Virginia, across 3 states.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $75k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
