Programs
Water protection program center - water sustains life. The lake champlain committee, inc. (lcc) influences policy, regulations, research and funding to protect and improve lake champlain's water quality and overall health. We take a watershed approach and focus on reducing nutrient loading and toxic pollution, safeguarding habitats and fostering community activism. A defining strength of lcc's work is its emphasis on science-based advocacy, education and collaborative action. Lcc plays a leadership role in the technical and policy bodies that direct how state, provincial and federal agencies invest in, monitor and improve lake health.
$235,264 spent64% of program spendingEducation and outreach - lcc believes an educated community is key to protecting lake champlain's health for this and future generations. We work to increase understanding of lake issues and engage community members and policymakers in protecting and restoring water quality and low impact access. We oversee the award-winning cyanobacteria monitoring program and annually train hundreds of community members to assess and report on conditions at more than 150 lake champlain and inland lake locations. Lcc publications include a regular e-newsletter on topical issues, an award- winning natural history book, and regular science and issue columns. We provide and host educational presentations throughout the watershed and run ongoing programs and campaigns to foster stewardship.
$74,479 spent20% of program spendingEcological integrity - the lake champlain committee (lcc)works to safeguard critical habitats, combat invasive species, and build resilient communities that can adapt to climate change. These efforts are core to our mission of protecting lake champlain's ecological health. Our aquatic invasive species (ais) monitoring program trains and supports community science volunteers to identify and prevent the spread of harmful species, offering a hands-on opportunity to protect the lake. Lcc also develops practical resources - such as lessons from the floods - to help watershed communities prepare for and respond to the growing impacts of extreme weather.
$46,112 spent13% of program spendingRecreation & access - lcc promotes water stewardship and fosters recreational access because a healthy lake depends on all of us. We serve as the home organization of the lake champlain paddlers' trail, a recreational corridor for human-powered craft, with more than 40 shoreline and island locations. Lcc works with state, municipal and private landowners to develop and maintain trail sites. We also oversee an active stewardship program for remote trail locations and publish an annual online trail and stewardship guidebook to help people safely explore the lake.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $1.6M to $1.8M (+14%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2017 19% · 2018 19% · 2019 31% · 2020 47% · 2021 24% · 2022 68%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
91% of LAKE CHAMPLAIN COMMITTEE INC’s revenue is contributions — more donation-reliant than the typical peer (88% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 7 funders to 12 funders, grant income rose $26k → $82k.
4 of 22 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 41% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of LAKE CHAMPLAIN COMMITTEE INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
LAKE CHAMPLAIN COMMITTEE INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 32% of grant income and the top three 72%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
44% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund LAKE CHAMPLAIN COMMITTEE INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 76% · 2018 39% · 2019 44% · 2020 34% · 2021 35% · 2022 38% · 2023 36% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
67% of LAKE CHAMPLAIN COMMITTEE INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 73% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
67% of LAKE CHAMPLAIN COMMITTEE INC's grant income comes from Vermont funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $253k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
