What L Arche Cleveland Inc does
Mission
L'arche cleveland, inc. (l'arche) is a not for profit, incorporated, faith-based community/agency which provides homes and services to adults with developmental disabilities. Individuals with and without developmental disabilities create home and shared life together.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
L'arche cleveland operates five (5) homes in which fourteen (14) core members (persons with developmental disabilities who are at the "core" of the l'arche mission)live and share their lives with assistants and volunteers. L'arche celebrates the unique value of every person and recognizes the community's need for one-another. L'arche is a french word for 'ark' - our philosophy is one of shared humanity. Locally, the l'arche leadership team is made up of the ceo, assistant program director as well as house leaders and staff.
$1,277,104 spent100% of program spendingAll of the core members are in the cuyahoga county board of developmental disabilities (board of ccbdd) system. Medicaid individual options waiver eligibility is necessary as the system of support for the core members. L'arche cleveland is a licensed and accredited medicaid services provider. Two of the homes are licensed by the state through residential facility waiver. Three of the homes are supported living/individual option waiver homes. As with any family, all members are responsible for the group's best well-being. At the heart of the community is the respectful relationship between people who treat each other as equals. Nurturing these relationships allows for personal development and gives people the freedom to be unique whatever their abilities or disabilities. L'arche communities engage in diverse cultures and work together toward a more just, welcoming, and human society. L'arche cleveland is proud of the community which it has developed and grown for more than forty (40) years.
All of the l'arche homes have on-site assistants 24/7. Some of the assistants live on-site while others live off-site. Assistants support core members in their daily activities when help or guidance is required. The l'arche practice is to do with rather than do for. These activities include such things as: meal preparation, attending appointments, outings, church and recreational activities; home care, cleaning, and medication administration, physical care; and skill development. Some core member's daily activities include employment programs. Individual service plans exist for each core member.
Each of the l'arche homes are run by house leaders and as many as six (6)assistants. In addition, l'arche has several committees that are tasked with specific duties. The ceo is responsible for the day to day operations of l'arche and the provision of services. L'arche maintains an office with staff in cleveland where the ceo works - not far from its five homes. There is considerable interaction between the core members, and leadership team within these homes in order to foster the mutually transforming relationships that the gifts of the core members and assistants reveal to one another during daily living. Home life is at the heart of the l'arche community.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2021 to 2022, from $1.5M to $2.1M (+38%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2017 86% · 2018 90% · 2019 83% · 2020 75% · 2021 86% · 2022 87% · 2023 88% · 2024 88%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base held at 2 funders, grant income fell $2k → $1k.
4 of 9 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 88% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of L ARCHE CLEVELAND INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
L ARCHE CLEVELAND INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 46% of grant income and the top three 87%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
88% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund L ARCHE CLEVELAND INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 67% · 2018 100% · 2019 67% · 2020 62% · 2021 78% · 2022 100% · 2023 88% — growing more concentrated.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
29% of L ARCHE CLEVELAND INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 56% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
88% of L ARCHE CLEVELAND INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $11k that is directly attributable, 55% of it comes from Ohio funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $79k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
